Global Growth - The Basics

Starting with a thorough understanding of the Healthcare "Global Market" place, mixed with thorough customer "Brand Knowledge", then how to apply those brands with our consistent "On-site Execution" experience Czarnowski Cologne team continues cranking out stands (international-speak for “booths”) and other solutions for customers around the world. Here’s a look at several recent projects (clockwise from top-left):

  • Thermo Fisher at Biotechnia Oct. 8-10 in Hannover, Germany, which blended custom and rental properties.
  • Philips at EANM (European Association of Nuclear Medicine) Oct. 19-23 in Lyon, France, facilitated with our partner Uniplan. It was also debut of new light towers produced in Germany.
  • Thermo Fisher at DGHM (German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology), held in September in Rostock, Germany. We worked with our partner in Berlin, who provided this one-time rental stand, a more affordable solution than pulling, prepping and shipping Thermo’s owned property from Cologne.
  • Philips at ERC (European Resuscitation Council) Oct. 25-27 in Krakow, Poland. We worked with our partner in the Czech Republic for Czar's first show in Poland.
  • American Orthodontics at the JO Show in Paris, the second we’ve facilitated for American Orthodontics in Europe with their custom properties. Despite being prohibited from hanging anything from the hall system, we delivered another successful international show for AO.

Czar Teams with Coca-Cola for Virtual Convenience Experience

Longtime customer, Coca-Cola, turned to the Czarnowski team to improve their brand presence at last month's NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores) event, the largest trade show for convenience retailers in the US. At the show, buyers for convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and Circle K convened at NACS in Atlanta to “shop” for products to sell in their stores. It’s one of Coke’s  premier events of the year, offering an abundance of sales opportunities – and competition.

Czarnowski's Creative Team developed the concept of a Digital Cold Vault, a virtual version of a convenience store’s huge beverage coolers. In reality, the store’s “wall of fridges” can generate significant profits, especially if it offers the right products to the right customer. The Digital Cold Vault shows buyers different beverage coolers stocked with Coke products selected to appeal to specific customer groups – in a life-size, real-time format.

Controlled by a Coke representative through an interactive kiosk, the Digital Cold Vault displays different product combinations on 60 video microtiles that come together to create a digital, life-size cooler wall. Product information and videos also were programmed into the experience, so visitors could learn more about Coke's newest product innovations anytime during the presentation. More than 120 retailers engaged with the system throughout the course of the show, some staying for 15 minutes or longer to discuss shopper strategy with Coke representatives. Competitors were also intrigued by the Cold Vault – many stopped by for photos, and one even said, “I’ll have to make sure I have one of these next year at our booth!”

One of our Coca-Cola direct contacts called the show “a game-changer,” saying “our Digital Cold Vault experience let us spend time working with retailers to not only showcase our brands and packages, but also our thought leadership and category expertise.” Coke has also asked Czarnowski to incorporate the Digital Cold Vault into three permanent installations and create a mobile version for Coke sales reps.

Well done to the CZAR and Coca-Cola Partnership!

Not Just Another Interactive....

We've all learned that UV light is harmful to our eyes, but did you know that within the visible light spectrum there are varying wavelengths and some are harmful? Some types are important to our overall well-being (they regulate our sleep cycle, for example), while others can damage our skin and eyes. Crizal, a new product from France-based lens manufacturer Essilor, is a coating on glasses lenses that filters out harmful light while letting beneficial light pass through.

Not an easy product to describe, right? Now imagine trying to tell that story on a Tradeshow floor! That's why Essilor turned to us to create a custom interactive at the Vision Expo West show earlier this month in Las Vegas. The challenge was to develop an engaging customer journey to showcase the Crizal product, its benefits and the Essilor brand. A team from multiple locations worked together on the sophisticated interactive, a 12' by 25' tunnel that used audio, visuals and technology to explain how Crizal works. An added challenge? The best part of the story is teaming another exhibit agency, which meant working within their timeframes and processes with the customer's goals being the #1 priority.

It's an Exciting Fall 2013 in Europe!

Czarnowski Cologne has had a busy fall show season so far, supporting clients at a variety of events across Europe. Czar Cologne works with domestic locations (including Atlanta, Boston and Chicago, among others) and our global implementation partner, Uniplan, to bring projects to life. Here's a look at some of their work during September (clockwise from top-right):
  • Mazor Robotics at Eurospine in Liverpool, which was the first stand we facilitated for Mazor outside the U.S. Our next show with Mazor will be DWG, Dec. 5-12 in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • American Orthodontics at DGKFO in Saarbrüken, Germany, another first for Czarnowski and AO working together internationally. AO has three more European shows on the schedule in the months ahead.
  • Philips at the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) show in Paris, which the client reported "had lots of interest, lots of photos taken and a really great team spirit," in an email to the team.
  • Ellex at the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) show in Amsterdam

Another Success in Germany!

Each September, more than 300 exhibitors and nearly a million visitors convene in Frankfurt, Germany for IAA, one of the world's biggest auto shows. Czarnowski, working with Uniplan, our execution partner in Europe and Asia, helped us bring booths to life for two domestic brands: Cadillac and Chevrolet.

While working internationally has a unique set of challenges, consistency is key. "The idea is to not differ from the US," explained Czarnowski's Chevrolet Account Director Erik Schoneman. "We are going for brand consistency globally for all GM brands, so [global shows] should have the exact same look and feel. Think Apple stores globally -- all the same and instant brand recognition."

The client was thrilled with the final space, and press day was packed, especially when DJ Antoine stopped by the booth to sign autographs, says Czarnowski's Cadillac Account Director Jan Gogerty.

Our strategic locations around the world brought these projects to life, with design by Czarnowski Detroit, engineering and fabrication by Uniplan and project management from our Detroit and Cologne offices.
Congratulations to all involved on a successful IAA 2013!

Great Partnerships aren't just Born.....

We’re expert multitaskers at Czarnowski, so when Porsche turned to us to help bring special events in multiple locations to life, we stepped up to the challenge. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its signature 911 sports car, Porsche hosted showcase events in three locations near Monterey, Calif., Aug. 14-18 as part of the Monterey Motorsports Festival.

Multiple Czarnowski locations worked together to develop the creative strategy, plus design, fabricate and install, all three showcases. Events included everything from an exclusive Porsche "Zentrum" pavilion featuring heritage and future products to a VIP event including the Porsche Driver's Selection fashion show. Since 2010, Czarnowski has supported Porsche’s face-to-face marketing activities at auto shows, road shows and special projects like this one. Congrats to everyone involved in these exciting events!

Next up....CZAR Boston!

Category Boston

Gone Hollywood: Czar helps create Oscars VIP lounge

First the Super Bowl, now the Academy Awards! Czarnowski recently helped create Dolby's new VIP Lounge, which will play host to Oscar nominees like Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway and Ben Affleck this Sunday. Designed to resemble "what sound looks like," the lounge features a curved fabric ceiling, glowing tables and sound waves on the walls. It was open only to nominees and VIPs on Oscar night, the first at the newly rebranded Dolby Theatre (previously named the Kodak).
Several of Czarnowski's western locations worked together on the project, including San Francisco (sales, engineering, management), Denver (rentals) and LA (install). Nice work, folks!

MINI Gadgets LA Auto 2013

The LA Auto Show kicked off this week with a preview for press. Czar customer MINI (whose slot machine at least year's show earned Czar an Exhibit Design Award) showed off its newest Czar-created gadget: a custom-built joystick. The larger-than-life gadget mirrors the one drivers use to control MINI's Connected system, which integrates iPhone apps into the vehicle and allows drivers to access their phone's music, maps and more. Once connected to an iPhone, the driver can view phone data through a console-mounted screen and control the system through a mini-joystick located near the gear shift. That's right -- a car with a joystick. Fun, right?

CZAR's SAE/Detroit Title Sponsor Collaboration

The pinnacle of automotive engineering convocations is held annually in Detroit, Michigan. For the 2012 event, Czarnowski was asked to bid on providing a co-branded display for the title sponsor(s), Nissan and GE.

The goal of the RFQ was to secure an experienced exhibit marketing company to design, build and deliver an exceptional property that highlighted both high profile brands with distinction and parity.  Also important was partnering with an organization that could effectively communicate the two individual technology stories as a unified, complementary and singular story. Czar was selected as the partner of choice.

Key messaging:
·  Nissan & GE collaborate to provide distinct products(s) that communicate with each other and deliver resourcefully functional technology
·  If a home loses electrical power, the Nissan Leaf can act as a power source to operate any GE appliances in the home.  Nissan and GE’s software collaboration allows the GE nucleus to ‘talk to’ the Nissan Leaf, and in turn, the Leaf can talk to GE appliances.
·  Nissan’s commercial vehicle quick charger charges electric vehicles in 20 minutes or less.  Detroit was the North American debut of the quick charger.  Other consumer based chargers, wall and pedestal mount, were also featured.

Here's more about this unique and powerful team:  Nissan GE Collaboration

CZAR Flys High....yet again!

For the second consecutive year, Czarnowski has earned an EXHIBITOR Magazine Exhibit Design Award in the “Excellent Elements” category. This year’s award recognizes the product display/iPad interface Czarnowski designed and fabricated for Gulfstream at NBAA 2012.

Gulfstream designs, develops, manufactures and services the world’s most technologically advanced business aircraft. Czarnowski drew inspiration from the design of Gulfstream aircraft to create an exhibit that is clean and streamlined throughout. The award winning component within the exhibit is a series of model aircraft with integrated iPad interfaces that employ swooping curves and angled mounting to convey soaring. This solution enabled Gulfstream to deliver specific information about each of its aircraft models without having to bring full-sized aircraft into its exhibit.

The Exhibit Design Awards honor the world's best trade show exhibit designs. The competition draws domestic and international entrants from countries such as Turkey, Switzerland, Israel, Australia, and the Netherlands.

CZAR CJs ROCK Las Vegas!

EXHIBITOR is such a fantastic experience, one that our team looks forward to every year!  I wanted to thank you all for a fantastic ‘opening night’ party that helped to get us in the right frame of mind for the show (and classes)!  It was such an enjoyable experience where we were able to mingle with other trade show marketers and your team without pressure.  It was so incredible to see people walking the show floor and in classes with the bright red Chucks on all week.  They were like a badge of honor and an identifier for other CJs.

It’s not often you talk about a party weeks after – but I know that we will be especially when we are all sporting our new "Red Chucks" around the office.  Job well done!”

“ I enjoyed your party and seeing your booth at EXHIBITOR.  Both were very impressive and I am very impressed with your operation.  When we decide to send out an RFP for new booth properties or any type of tradeshow consulting, I will be sure to have you at the top of my list.

This is just a glimpse of our EXHIBITOR impact in the words of a couple of very happy CJs who, dare we say, are now Czarnowski fans for life.  Curve JUMPing proved to be the activity of choice and quite a showstopper in Vegas this year.

We hosted a capacity crowd of more than 100 customers and prospects at our JUMP opening night party.  Our speaker sessions were among the best attended and liveliest on the schedule – leaving standing-room-only crowds clamoring for more.  Traffic to our booth was steady and sensational.  Attendees were clearly seeking out and drawn in by the story of CJ – not to mention our breathtaking booth design!  In all, we compiled leads and connected a ton of CJs.

Stay tuned for more CJ success stories as the year goes on.  In the meantime, check out some of the images that really show and tell what Curve JUMPing is all about.

....and again in the ATL!

After nearly a decade in the previous White Street facility, Czarnowski has relocated and opened a 560,000 sq. ft. state of the art "Exhibitions and Events Marketing" facility in Austell, GA.

As a testament to the long term global customers we have partnered with, we continue to grow....and grow. Is it good? Absolutely! With consolidated Operations and Production with Design and Account Management, we have added extreme value to our customer's bottom line.

In addition to the new Hartman Industrial Way address in the ATL area, we have made similar moves in the Las Vegas region by relocating our Production from Las Vegas to the St. George, Utah area while maintaining a new operations center in our new North Las Vegas facility. Having just added a facility in Cologne, Germany and soon in Shanghai we are better suited to support our customer's needs on a global scale.

Here we grow again! Czarnowski Expands in Orlando

Recently, we consolidated our Orlando operations into a single 80,000-square foot sales, design, fabrication and storage facility. The new facility allows us to increase operational and energy efficiencies compared with the two separate buildings we occupied previously. “Orlando is an important destination for our clients so it’s important that we continually retool our processes to maintain state-of-the-art delivery,” says Bob DeFacci, General Manager.

Our Orlando office has experienced continual growth, creating eight new jobs and bringing our team count up to 30 Orlando-based employees over the past three years. “Our team members are the best in the industry. Hard work and dedication to our customers are the reason for our continued success,” says Mark Nagle.

In addition to increasing operational efficiency, the new facility enhances our sustainability efforts. The new building design integrates energy efficient lighting, motion sensors and water saving devices. In addition, we’ll continue to recycle paper, plastics, and metals. Currently, our Orlando location recycles approximately 15,000 pounds of metal per year.

CZAR Jumps again at HCEA 2011

HCEA's (Healthcare Exhibitor's Association)Annual Meeting is the only educational conference in North America that focuses solely on the unique needs of healthcare exhibit marketers and medical meeting organizers. This year, the meeting was held at The Wynn Las Vegas from June 25-28.

Czarnowski was in the middle of the mix exhibiting, mingling with Customers and Prospects and encouraging attendees to JUMP!

JUMP! is a simple powerful word that evokes fun, emotion and action. Launched earlier this year, our JUMP! theme has become a great platform for telling our story of thinking differently.

JUMP! is all about moving trade show marketers and their programs to the next level in a way only Czar can. JUMP! taps into the unique personality, potent personal power and inherent playfulness of attendees…and we literally give them a reason to jump for joy while discussing the possibilities of what’s next for them and their program. We are seeking, celebrating and elevating the Curve JUMPers among us…one attendee at a time!

For a complete run-through of JUMP! at HCEA, check out the Activation Plan. Contact Mark Cooper for your copy (mcooper@czarnowski.com) As with any face to face strategy we coach our customers on, we certainly took our own advice and JUMPed it up a few notches.

This program was shaped and executed by our thinkForm group from across the Czar Globe. You’ll see some of them getting their JUMP! on in the pages of the Activation Plan for the event. A BIG thank you our customers and our new prospect friends and HUGE kudos go out to everyone involved in making HCEA happen…we think we make for a great team!

Philips Solidifies Tradeshow Program!

Check out the April issue of Event Marketer Magazine

http://www.eventmarketer.com/magazines/2011/april/april-2011

One of our Curve JUMPing clients, Jeff Masters from Philips Healthcare, is on the cover and the related story tells the amazing story of how Philips, Czar and a whole team of trailblazers are leading what’s next in face-to-face marketing. An excerpt from the article is below.

"Yes, budgets are ticking back and trade show attendance is up. But we’re hardly where we need to be.

Trade show attendees have smaller T&E budgets than they did three years ago and have to be more selective about which shows they go to. And although marketing budgets are back in black, exhibitors are being faced with smaller turnouts, so they’re looking for more effective ways to connect with fewer, more qualified customers—all the while with more conservative footprints and build budgets. And thanks to the rise of virtual events and microsites, marketers have to be even more savvy about creating value around their live experiences to help justify the time and expense of attending.

Indeed, the days of build it and they will come are long gone. But in its place is an emerging spirit of partnership—a more coordinated effort on the part of exhibitors and show producers to work together to create a live experience that busts out of neatly defined booth spaces and instead creates a cohesive show experience that brings like-minded brands together in new, relevant contexts.

The result is a show model that’s heavy on the hands-on and laser focused on providing the right experience at the right time in an effort to energize the entire show base. Because in this new era of trade show marketing, what’s good for one is good for all."

Congratulations to the entire Philips team for continuing to JUMP Curves and gaining well deserved recognition along the way!

CZAR Client Reaches "All Star" Status

Czar client Philips Healthcare recently joined a very exclusive group of industry superstars when they were named an EXHIBITOR All-Star. This awards program, now in its 13th year, annually recognizes, celebrates and shines the spotlight on the most innovative event marketing programs on the planet and the people behind them.

This year, Jeff Masters, senior manager of global event marketing for Philips Healthcare, finds himself in that spotlight along with his entire team for a phenomenal, and highly measurable program that has evolved over the past several years. The baseline requirement for All-Star consideration: innovative solutions that have improved a company’s program dramatically. Not only did Jeff and his team meet this requirement, they blew it away!

This award winning story began when the event marketing team was met with a major challenge from management: prove how much events and shows contribute to the company in quantifiable terms (who attended, what they were shopping for, how this behavior correlates to purchase results, etc.) Management also wanted to know in very real terms, how much specific events, like RSNA, are worth to the company. No easy task any way you look at it.

Jeff and his team chose to look at this challenge as a huge opportunity. They set out to devise a one-of-a-kind measurement cocktail that combines data from various sources into real-time solutions and traceable results. Mission accomplished. Deep diving for useful data has turned this program into a beacon for their company and for the industry.

Once in the hot seat and challenged to prove their worth, now the event marketing department enjoys elevated status along with increased investment and devout interest in a piece of the marketing pie that undeniably works! And of course, Czar was there every step of the way from design to execution…and everywhere in between, giving life to the much sought after data on the show floor and beyond.

What’s next? Event and Tradeshow Industry – Predictions a-Plenty

As we sprint headlong into 2011, we thought it would be fun to take a look into the proverbial crystal ball to see what event professionals are saying about what’s next for the industry. So…we tapped into one of the online water coolers where event pros hang out and connect.

Late last year, BizBash Media asked hundreds of event professionals in various markets to chime in and give their best guess as to what 2011 might bring our industry with regard to style, tone, engagement, measurement, budgets and technology.

While this is far from a scientific study and we certainly are not endorsing these prognostications, it is interesting and fun to consider the varying opinions and possibilities. Some of our favorite predictions are listed below.

•'There will be an app for everything. Successful event companies will have staff members solely dedicated to figuring out technology.’

•'More and more collaboration between various vendors – technology, registration, AV and event management, etc. - to create a better final product for the event industry; the ones that don’t will be marginalized.’

•'Green is still important, but budgets rule.’

•'The trend for events is a mix of midcentury modern and classic furnishings with bronze and brasses making a comeback, warmer tones, natural materials, more homey and relaxed.’

•'In events/design/fashion, what is old is new again. Think Boardwalk Empire and Warhol’s Factory. We’ll be looking back to move forward in fresh ways for 2011.’

•'2011 is all about YOU! Attendees will be able to customize programs based on their needs/wants.’

•'Whether it’s a food truck pulling up to a private party, an undisclosed location or an underground dinner, the element of surprise will pop in 2011.’

•'Even more highly targeted events designed to create a heightened relationship between brands and their clients. Even large event platforms will be modeled on smaller, more intimate and more exclusive experiences. The companies that will succeed will understand how to make big feel intimate and exclusive.’

•'Planners will stop using social media because they’re ‘supposed to’ and begin using it because it supports their goals. Strategy first.’

•'Social media interaction will begin to be recognized as a boon to the event industry, as it continues to create a need for more face to face events.’

•‘2011 meetings are reformatting from the standard talking-head to no formal speakers, no panels – just open discussion among colleagues.’

•‘Corporations will lean toward sponsoring events that provide multiple tiers of exposure and brand activation. Gone are the days of providing logo exposure only.’

•‘We’re going to continue to see budgets slightly increasing. We’ve noticed clients are spending a bit more on each event.’

•‘Clients are shifting advertising budgets to event marketing. They are getting a bigger return on their investment by getting their products into the hands of consumers at experiential events.’

•‘Venues and vendors will need to work more closely to be creative in meeting the needs of clients with tighter budgets. The need to educate clients on the difference between cost and value is more important now than ever.’

•'Some interactive agencies or traditional event organizers and associations will create interactive event divisions to support their corporate customers, to customize their virtual stands, to market their virtual events, etc.’

•‘Thank you’s – whether in the form of a swag bag, charity donation or something else – will never go out of style.'

Czarnowski & UL Team up on "Chicago Santa's House"

If you’ve ever visited downtown Chicago during winter holiday season, then you’ve probably been swept up in the festive spirit and miles of decorations that blanket the city during this special time of the year.

One very special VIP takes up residence in the heart of the city for nearly a month to operate his Midwest satellite workshop. And this year, this VIP got a new house. Santa’s new house was concepted, designed, fabricated and installed by Czarnowski!

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) entrusted Czar with this very special project. As part of UL's ongoing partnership with the City of Chicago’s Office of Special Events, they sponsored Santa’s House on Daley Plaza. This house is a special place where children and families can experience the wonder of the North Pole and have their picture taken with Santa Claus throughout the holiday season.

Santa's Workshop opened in coordination with the City of Chicago Annual Tree Lighting on November 24 and offers activities and important safety tips to enjoy while children wait to tell Santa their holiday wishes.

“Our goal was to create an environment that embodies a sense of fantasy and wonder to deliver a fun and educational experience,” said Dan Griffin, idea shaper in Czarnowski’s Chicago office.

Visitors to Santa’s House wind through a fairy-tale environment that brings to life the experience of a visit to Santa’s home at the North Pole. As guests serpentine through the House, they encounter Santa’s desk, fireplace, Christmas tree and other belongings. Along the way guests engage in hands-on fun activities—such as the SantaMatic-3000 toy making machine and touch screens with creative games embedded with safety messages. “I’m thrilled that all of the boys and girls of Chicago will have a chance to visit me and the Mrs. in our new home,” said Santa.

Subtle safety messages are also integrated into the experience. For instance, as visitors explore Santa’s house, they learn about Christmas tree and fireplace safety. The computer on Santa’s desk displays the UL Safety at Home website (www.SafetyAtHome.com) and invites visitors to “Commit a Minute to Safety.”

The culmination of the experience is a visit with Santa Claus. UL is offering visitors the chance to get their picture taken with Santa and download a free digital photo at SafetyAtHome.com. “

Congrats to the entire Czar team for a fantastic job - needless to say, Czarnowski is now officially on Santa's permanent 'extra-nice' list!
